We congratulate our former institute colleague Dr. Baifan Zhou for becoming an Associate Professor at the Oslo Metropolitan University (Oslomet – storbyuniversitetet).

Mr. Zhou received his Bachelor’s degree in 2013 in Vehicle Engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology and his Master’s degree in 2017 in Mechanical Engineering from the KIT.

He completed his dissertation at the IAI on the topic “Machine Learning Methods for Product Quality Monitoring in Electric Resistance Welding” with magna cum laude in 2021. His PhD research focused on Machine Learning and Semantic Technology for quality monitoring in automated manufacturing. He was in an industrial PhD program jointly with Bosch Corporate Research and an external PhD candidate at KIT.

After finishing his PhD, he joined the University of Oslo as a postdoctoral research fellow, where he worked within the SIRIUS Centre for Scalable Data Access of Professor Arild Waaler. During this period, his research continued in combining Semantic Web and Machine Learning for Industry 4.0.

As of May 2023, he joined the Oslo Metropolitan University (Oslomet – storbyuniversitetet) as an Associate Professor.
