We congratulate Jonas Hurst on the award (Prize of the German Society for Cartography (DGfK) and the “Freundeskreis Geomatik der Hochschule Karlsruhe e. V.”) as one of the 13 best of the year at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HsKA Awards 2020).

The prize winner graduated in Geoinformation Management and dealt with the topic of 3D tree cadastre in his final thesis. Within the working group Semantic Data Models (SDM) he developed a software called "Tree3D", with which tabular data of a tree cadastre can be converted into three-dimensional tree models. Such models can then be used in 3D maps to interactively visualize, for example, the suitability of building parts for photovoltaic systems (solar potential).
